This was one of the best moment I enjoyed during my trip in last Bali. We decided to go to try this specific course because it looked so authentic and beautiful. And now I really thiink it was !
They pick you up at the your hotel or apartment, the nice drivers take you to a local market where you will go to select the food you are going to cook. We met Puspa there, which was so welcoming. Nice start. From veggies to spices, do not hesitate to ask about their specific food.
After some shopping, we were taken to a village where they live, and entered their beautiful property. How awesome it is to cook in a such atmosphere and Puspa’s husband was entertaining us, playing music next to us, also making jokes. A fun time. We six guests that day, and I think it is the perfect number.
So we were around the table, full of raw and beautiful fresh food. And two at a time we were following the chef in the process to prepare our meal. Where two guests are cooking, the 4 others sometimes watch the actions or help preparing food for the next steps. Time goes fast and we learned lot of techniques in order to manipulate ingredient and associate flavors. A barbecue was available to grill the skewers, I loved that moment.
On the menu: chicken satay, my favorite, and different local dishes. Menu items are not too difficult to make and are so tasty. Veggie soup, chicken curry and many favorites:
At the end of the course, they give you the full recipe and instructions to reproduce it at home. The course is very pleasant, and I wish I can go back. We found this particular cooking class after reading TripAdvisor reviews (I tend to no more using it, but in some areas, this is the only English friendly and useful website).
